RISK FACTORS AND PREVENTIVE TIPS FOR ACNE!
For many adults which includes me just after our teenage years, we've rejoiced that all the traces of "Acne" would vanish out of our lives forever. You've wondered so well why even at adulthood it still happens that you keep getting recurrence of the various shades of acnes. Dear, you don't have to wonder any more, because in this blog post, I will be giving you an exposition on the things that triggers Acne from teenage years down to how it migrated to adulthood.
You will agree with me that having reccuring acne can be tiring, and some people usually face severe pain with their own type of acne like the cystic acne. A wide range of individuals believes that their acne is the major cause of their anxiety and it gradually breeds low self esteem too. Also, I can tell you that acne has a way of making you pay so much attention to yourself particularly when it is found on your face. During my teenage years I personally suffered from virtually all types of acne, I payed so much attention to it during that period and I can seriously relate with your feelings. I have been there and I have one good news for you: "WE WON'T GET TO LIVE WITH ACNE FOREVER IN OUR LIVES".
Before we look into the risk factors (triggers) of acne, let me quickly remind us that there are various types of acne. Don't forget that pimple is a particular type of acne and it is in two forms the Papules and the Pustules. Not all bumps on your face are Pimples, it could be whitehead, blackhead, nodules or cystic acne. The major cause of Acne are listed below:
1) Accumulation of Sebum i.e natural oil inside your skin which will be mixed with
2)Dead skin cells and
3) Bacteria, there all form a blockage on the pores of your skin and that's how acne develops.
RISK FACTORS OF ACNE
People of all age and gender suffer from acne: not just teenagers or female like we've thought even adults and the male does. In correlation with the three major causes of acne that I outlined earlier, these other factors as you read on will set a trigger for an individual to get more acne.
TRIGGER 1: HORMONES There is an hormone called Androgen and this hormone increases both in male and female at puberty and even after puberty it's still being secreted. During these times of increased hormones, the body produces more sebum an oily and waxy substance, this then will lead to Inflammation when there are dead skin cells and bacterias accumulate in the hair follicles. When these has combined, acne then begins to appear on the skin. Note: it is not only those with much oily skin that gets acne even those with dried skin does, because at this point where the skin is dried, the glands begins force itself to secrete more oil to compensate for the dried skin. For ladies, If you experience acne breakout: During your period? When you are pregnant? If you recently start or stopped taking birth control pills? If you're approaching menopause? Then just understand that it is because of the fluctuation of your hormone during those times.
A fluctuations of estrogen and testosterone is a core trigger of acne in teenagers and adults.
TRIGGER 2: MEDICATIONS There are certain drugs that can trigger acne particularly the medications that contain androgen and lithium this will also increase the secretion of Sebum on the skin.
TRIGGER 3: CERTAIN MAKE-UP When the pores on your skin are covered by occlusive makeup oil, bacteria, and dead skin gets trapped in them, this will lead to acne breakouts. Note: Pores are responsible for releasing oil and sweat from the skin.
Some makeup contains lots of ingredients that may not be friendly to your skin. If you are sensitive to any of the ingredient in the makeup you're wearing this may also lead to inflammation causing breakouts. If you suspect this may be the case, look for makeup that are 'Hypoallergenic', meaning it is clinically proven to be safe for sensitive skin and contains gentle ingredients.
In addition to these triggers, if you have acne already, and you are stressed, it's very much possible that the acne will get worse because the stress hormone may increase androgen secretion at that moment.
PREVENTIVE TIPS FOR ACNE
1) Do well to use only mild soaps or cleansers and warm water, avoid using hot water to wash your face as much as you do.
2) Wash your face in a gentle manner daily and wipe with clean towel. Washing should not be more than twice a day.
3) Do well to avoid picking or popping and scraping pimples, doing so can make them worse and can cause inflammation and scarring.
4) Avoid makeup that aren't perfect for your skin type or use water-based cosmetics that are marked as non-comedogenic.
5) If you can, avoid environments with high humidity that cause excessive sweating. Most times the type of body cream you use might be sensitive to sun rays and it might also trigger some bumps or inflammation.
6) Avoid using harsh or exfoliating scrubs.
IN CONCLUSION: I want you to take to heart that acne won't live with you forever, so you don't have to freak out when you get any. Understand that you still have hormones running through your body, so, at some point ACNE will appear, but it will reduce as time progress. Do you know even with medication acne takes up to 4-6 weeks before it will totally clear off, some might even take more time than that time before it clears off. Stay calm and understand that it will certainly clear off honestly, it will. Just stick to the tips and you going to notice some difference.
