EFFECTIVE WAYS TO "ELIMINATE" VAGINAL YEAST INFECTION
To many ladies, vaginal yeast infection isn’t just irritating—it’s deeply uncomfortable. While some experience it as a mild itch, others deal with recurring infections that interrupt their peace, confidence, and daily life.
As your favourite nurse, I want you to know: even though this infection can be frustrating, there are fast, effective, and lasting solutions—once you understand what’s exposing you to it and how to treat it properly.
BUT FIRST, GET A PROPER DIAGNOSIS!
Before assuming it’s a yeast infection, visit your doctor—especially if:
- You’ve had it for more than 3 days
- It keeps coming back
- You’re pregnant
- You have symptoms that might point to a sexually transmitted infection (STI)
Note: Mild yeast infections may go away in a few days.
More severe or persistent ones may take up to two weeks to fully heal.
WHAT CAN EXPOSE YOU TO YEAST INFECTION?
- Scented feminine products (pads, vaginal washes, sprays, wipes).
- Over washing or scrubbing the vagina.
- Overconsumption of sugar. (Ladies, where there’s sugar, yeast will surely gather—just like ants.)
- Wearing damp, tight, or moldy underwear
- (This could be the reason your infection keeps coming back.)
- Staying too long in wet clothes (e.g., after workouts or swimming).
- Prolonged use of antibiotics.
- Poor vaginal hygiene habits.
HOW TO ELIMINATE YEAST INFECTION
MEDICAL TREATMENT OPTIONS:
- Fluconazole tablets (oral antifungal)
- Nystatin vaginal inserts
- Clotrimazole or Miconazole topical creams (e.g., Micotine)
Important Tips:
- Always complete the full dose, even if symptoms disappear early.
- Avoid these medications during pregnancy unless prescribed.
- Don’t use expired medications.
- Creams/suppositories may weaken condoms—consider other protection during treatment.
LIFESTYLE TIPS TO HELP HEAL & PREVENT REINFECTION
- Change your underwear regularly
- Use only unscented hygiene products
- Avoid wipes and intimate sprays
- Cut down or quit sugar
- Eat unsweetened yoghurt (natural probiotics)
- Eat fermented foods like ogi (pap)
- Wear cotton underwear—avoid tight nylon pants
- Dry off properly before wearing underwear
- Go naked while at home or sleeping to let your vulva breathe
