WHY YOU KEEP HAVING AN IRREGULAR MENSTRUAL CYCLE
The menstrual cycle is one thing all ladies must be able to pay attention to just the same way we pay attention our beautiful hair.
You observed that you aren't pregnant but you've missed your period for three months now and in addition to that, you can't recall what your cycle looks like. And you worried about what this may be? It's an irregular menstrual cycle/flow.
I'll be giving an balanced breakdown on IRREGULAR MENSTRUAL CYCLE in this blog post.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE AN IRREGULAR MENSTRUAL CYCLE?
Ideally, every lady has a menstrual cycle that's occurs somewhere between 21days and 35days which includes the 28days cycle that most women are used to. What this means for instance is that, "From the first day you see your period in a month to the next 21days or 35days (this varies for all women), that's when you will get your next period. This flow usually last between 3-7days.
•Now, having an irregular menstrual flow means missing multiple periods in a row or missing your period indefinitely.
An irregular cycle means, having a period that occurs more frequently than every 21 days or having a period that occurs less frequently than every 35 days — both of which are outside the normal range for a menstrual cycle. To determine whether your menstrual cycle is irregular, you'll have to count from the last day of your previous period and stop counting on the first day of your next. Repeat this for three months. If the number of days between stopping and starting your period is outside of the 21 to 35 days range, it is signaled that you have an irregular cycle.
Having a missed period for a month is not a thing to fret about because it might be the body's hormonal response at that moment. But the potential red flag is when the menstrual cycle is more than 35 days long or shorter than 21 days or when you having three rows of missed period then it calls for caution.
HOWEVER, IF YOU KEEP A CAREFUL TRACK OF YOUR PERIOD, THEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO PREDICT WHEN YOU HAVE IRREGULAR PERIODS.
Dear ladies, it's not enough to only take not of the very first day you began menstruating ( i.e your menarche), you must be observant over every flow and keep track of your cycle .
Below, I quickly outlined Five things you must put in mind to keep a proper track record of your menstrual flow:
-When your period begins and ends this will help you know what your cycle is like and to know if it's consistent or if there be any irregularity.-The amount of flow. Get to know the quality of your flow one day after the other so that you can easily detect for any irregularities in case it flows more heavy or more less than the one you are used to.
-Check if there is any blood clot in the flow. If you suspect any thick blood lump throughout your flow, Make a note of their size and appearance and do not fail to seek medical attention because it might be a sign for a more severe health condition.
-Spotting instead of a normal flow
-Any drastic changes in your menstrual cycle.
Please dear beautiful ladies, do not ignore any of this signs accompanying your menstrual flow (period),talk to your doctor about it.
Note: For young teens who just got visited by mother nature [Menstruation], it's normal to have an irregular cycle for the first few years because the body is trying to normalize to this new pattern. So just talk to your doctor for more advice on that.
WHAT TRIGGERS THE BODY TO HAVE IRREGULAR MENSTRUAL CYCLE (period)?:
-HORMONAL IMBALANCE - A change in the body hormones like estrogen and progesterone could be disrupting your menstrual cycle, as well as causing heavy bleeding and other symptoms especially among teens and women approaching menopause.-Chronic stress or even short-term anxiety about a specific problem can wreak havoc with your hormone balance, causing a missed period and irregular cycle.
-THE TYPE OF CONTRACEPTIVE YOU USE AT THAT MOMENT - Birth control pills and also IUDs, implants, and rings can also cause irregular bleeding.
-PREMENOPAUSE -It has been estimated that 70 percent of women experience menstrual irregularities in the approach to menopause.
As you enter the transition to menopause, your menstrual cycles will become erratic as part of the process. If you skip more than two periods, you are probably in late perimenopause.
vi) IRREGULAR PERIODS MAY OCCUR WHILE BREAST-FEEDING A NEWBORN
All of these listed above are the primary causes of irregular period.
While the more secondary and severe causes are:
-UTERINE FIBROID - Uterine fibroids are tumors but they are noncancerous cells that attach to the wall of the uterus. There may be one or several fibroids that range from as small as an apple seed to the size of a grapefruit. These tumors are usually benign, but they may cause heavy bleeding and pain during periods. If the fibroids are large, they might put pressure on the bladder or rectum, causing discomfort.
-ENDOMETRIOSIS - This is when the cells from the uterus grow outside the uterine walls. This usually cause significant pain and discomfort and affect the consistency of your period.
-POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME (PCOS) - This metabolic and hormonal disorder occurs when the ovaries or adrenal glands overproduce the “male” hormones (androgens) and the body has insulin resistance. Studies have shown that 87 percent of women with irregular menstrual cycles have PCOS.
These are the triggers for continuous irregular menstrual cycle and it can also signal an underlying medical condition that's sometimes come with these side effects below:
-Heavy bleeding
-Light bleeding
-Intense pain or cramping
-Nausea or vomiting
-Bleeding or spotting between menstruation
-Bleeding or spotting after sex.
You wouldn't want this to disrupt your normal life function isn't it? So talk to a medical practitioner about it ASAP.
