PREVENTIVE TIPS FOR UTIs
Tip No 1: WIPE FROM FRONT TO BACK
Wiping is a very key aspect in vaginal hygiene but how it is done is vital. Now, knowing that the anus is close to the vaginal it is expected to wipe from the vaginal back to the anus not the other way round. If you wipe from your anus to the vaginal it will trigger the movement of E.coli bacteria in the stool to move into the vaginal and thereafter to the bladder resulting to Cystitis.
Tip No 2: STAY HYDRATED
Staying hydrated with water about 2.2 litres daily is recommended for a healthy system. This 2.2 litres may also include taking fruits, smoothie, vegetables, milk and yogurts. Know that 1 litre must be water purely as this will help dilute the urine and alongside flush away the harmful bacteria.
Like we've known, one of the symptoms of UTI is painful urination according to the study published in JAMA Internal Medicine in October 2018. The study showed that drinking more water daily led to fewer episodes of recurrent cystitis and less need for antibiotics.
Water is the best choice. Aim for 6 to 8 glasses per day.
Tip No 3: AVOID HOLDING YOUR PEE(urine) FOR TOO LONG
Urine held for too long, can encourage bacterial growth. Try not to wait more than 3 to 4 hours to urinate, and each time, empty your bladder completely.
This is even more important if you’re pregnant as pregnancy puts you at an increased risk for a UTI. Holding your pee can further increase the risk.
